Charlotte is home to a vibrant and growing Latino population—and yet, thousands of Latino students and families still lack access to culturally responsive mental health support, mentorship, and empowerment programs.
At Despierta, we’re bridging that gap. Our youth program currently serves Latina students in seven Title I schools using a trauma-informed, social-emotional learning curriculum. Through culturally relevant mentorship and group sessions from grades 6 to 12, students develop resilience, confidence, and leadership.
But we don’t stop there. What makes us different is that we also invest in the family.
Research shows that mental health risks drop by 60% when young people have strong family support. That’s why our yearlong cohorts include parent workshops, family events, and access to bilingual therapy for students and caregivers.
